Subtraction of Fractions

We adopt the following steps to subtract fractions:

• Change any mixed numbers to improper fractions.
• Find the lowest common multiple of the denominators.
• Express all fractions with the same denominator.
• Simplify the numerator using subtraction, and then simplify the fraction thus obtained if possible.
• Write the answer either as a proper fraction or as a mixed number as appropriate.
