Solution:

Ratio is 3 : 5.

Example 12

Divide $35 in the ratio 2 : 3.

Solution:

Ratio is 2 : 3.

So, the first amount is $14 and the second amount is $21.

Example 13

Divide $600 between Karen and Kathy in the ratio 1 : 4.

Solution:

Ratio is 1 : 4.

So, Karen receives $120 and Kathy receives $480.
