The perimeter, P, of a closed plane
shape (or figure) is the
distance around its outside boundary.
Perimeter can be measured in millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), metres
(m) and kilometres (km).
Perimeters of the following figures are often required to solve real world
problems.

Find the perimeter of a square paddock of side 29 m.
Solution:


So, the perimeter is 116 m.
Example 9
Find the perimeter of a rectangular field of length 85 m and width 75 m.
Solution:


So, the perimeter is 320 m.
Example 10
Find the perimeter, P, of the triangle shown below.

Solution:

So, the perimeter is 49 cm.
