Problem 12.1  Percentage Increase

The sides of this cube are x units long.

1.  If each side of the cube is increased by 1%,
     what is the side-length of the new cube?

2.  Find the volume of the:
a.  original cube
b.  new cube

3.  Find the increase in volume.

4.  By what percent has the volume of the cube
     increased?  Express your answer to the nearest
     one-hundredth of a percent.

 

Problem 12.2  An Estate

A $33,000 estate is divided between 5 children and a great uncle.  The children receive equal shares and the great uncle receives a one-half share.  How much money does each child receive?


Problem 12.3  Number of Votes

The winning candidate for a local council mayor position received 5% more votes than her opponent.  If there were 82,000 votes cast, by how many votes did she win?


Problem 12.4  A Clothing Store

A clothing store stocked 350 trousers.  During January it sold 30% of the trousers.  In February it sold 40% of the remaining trousers.  How many trousers were left at the end of February?


Problem 12.5  To Earn Enough

Jodie is paid $90 for a 6 hour workday.  How many minutes must she work to earn enough to purchase a $10 book?


Problem 12.6  Two Players

Two players hired a car for $189 a week.  One player used the car for 2 days and the other player used it for 5 days.  How much should each player pay?


Problem 12.7  Salesman

Sally's dad is a salesman.  He receives a salary of $210 a week plus 1.4% of his sales.  If his total sales for a week were $3500, how much money did he earn for that week?
