Common Factors

Factors that are common to two or more numbers are said to be common factors.

The common factors of 4 and 6 are 1 and 2.  This is as the factors of 4 are 1, 2 and 4 and the factors of 6 are 1, 2, 3 and 6.


Example 7

Find the common factors of 10 and 30.

Solution:

The common factors are in bold.

So, the common factors of 10 and 30 are 1, 2, 5 and 10.


Example 8

Find the common factors of 26 and 39.

Solution:

The common factors are in bold.

So, the common factors of 26 and 39 are 1 and 13.
